Summary |
September comes quickly, with summer slipping by without our consent.
The school year resumes, the weather slowly changes and we arrive at a time of self-reflection. The Hebrew month
of Elul, the month that precedes Rosh Hashanah, is traditionally the time for spiritual preparation for the holidays.
With Rosh Hashanah arriving at the end of September, we have this whole month to prepare for the season of repentance, healing and redirection. What do we need to heal in our own lives? How might we redirect our attention, our energies, our heart and our intentions?
These questions alone could serve as reflection points for the next four weeks in preparation for the New Year.
This 5780 we hope to support you in that journey throughout every season. Our services and classes will include opportunities to work on spiritual resilience, to wrestle with challenging contemporary issues and to deepen connection to community, Torah, good works and spiritual practice.
Look for classes in the series, The Torah of Now: Challenge and Response on Friday nights and Shabbat afternoons. Mark your calendars for “Contemporary Conversations” on Shabbat mornings. Don’t miss the newly energized DOROT intergenerational learning program on Sunday mornings. And let’s continue to show up for one another, to celebrate, to mourn, to learn, and to serve.
May we continue to hold one another through whatever comes our way and may our values and our deeds anchor us through calm and stormy waters.
I wish you and yours a sweet, healthy new year and pray that together we can bring greater healing and joy to this ailing world.
